Roberta Donnay & The Prohibition Mob - Sings Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday and more Live!

Co-Presented by Marin Jazz and the Lark Theater!

Award-winning jazz/blues recording artist Roberta Donnay’s interest in roots music started at a young age. Studying Vintage Jazz and Blues, she started performing with her guitar and composing music, then moved to San Francisco and sang with Dick Oxtot’s Golden Age Jazz Band and “Tom Keats and his Tom Kats” and the Jimmy Price Big Band.

This led her to record with legendary jazz producer Orrin Keepnews, and touring 10+ years as a member of “Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks”.

Her group Prohibition Mob, formed in 2011, signed with Motema Music (“A Little Sugar” 2012 and “Bathtub Gin” 2015 and with Blujazz (“My Heart Belongs to Satchmo”) 2018. They have performed at venues and festivals including Birdland NYC, Exit Zero Jazz Fest, San Jose Jazz, Jacksonville Jazz, Berkshires Jazz Fest, as guest artist at Monterey Jazz and Montreux Jazz Fest, and more.

The Prohibition Band features Grammy-winning trombonist Mike Rinta, John R.Burr on piano, Mark Williams on bass, Mark Lee on drums

"With her singularly enticing sound, few contemporary vocalists are as well suited to dustily vintage material as jazz-blues stylist Roberta Donnay." - Jazz Times

”Roberta Donnay is a Jazz Age preservationist, guardian of Depression-era sounds, and extender of traditions, but her music isn’t covered with cobwebs or dated in any way.” – All About Jazz
